What are Google's new Core Web Vitals?

Well, they are nothing more than a set of indicators linked to the speed, response time and visual stability of a website. According to Google, these are KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) that help to evaluate the user experience when accessing a given web page in a more appropriate way.

These indicators will have to be combined with other existing ones, such as the existence of a website compatible with navigation via a smartphone, the provision of a secure experience using HTTPS or even the non-imposition of intrusive interstitials.

Initially, the trend is for Google's new Core Web Vitals to use 3 metrics: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), which measures the rendering of the largest visual content on the page in question, the First Input Delay (FID), which measures the time it took for the browser to respond after user interaction and, finally, the Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), which measures the amount of visible and unexpected layout shifts that have occurred on the page.

In addition, the company also promises to include several other metrics in the future, making websites, whether corporate or personal, increasingly focus on simplicity, effectiveness and objectivity.

When should companies prepare?

Despite having already released information about Core Web Vitals, Google announced that the new metrics will only be taken into account from 2021 onwards, and that it will announce them 6 months in advance, due to the current pandemic scenario that the world is going through. However, the North American company has already promoted radical changes in some website measurement tools, with the aim of encouraging professionals to SEO and analysts starting to worry about the new metrics.
